So you had your photo session and got a first glimpse at your images, what is next?!
These images are memories that matter and bring us joy, and they need to be brought to life. They are reminders of times spent with those we care about. We photograph to remember how people, relationships and special moments made us feel. Photographs keep those memories alive for the future. Consider printing your images.
Here are four good reasons to invest in some quality prints:
#1 You are more likely to see them daily
When was the last time you looked at ALL of the photos on your phone? A printed photo is a tangible object. You are able to see the prints on your walls, on your counters, and maybe even in an album on your table on a daily bases. There are also studies that show that images of themself and their family improve kids confidence and self-esteem as well as promote a feeling of belonging.
#2 Prints are something you can physically touch
It’s hard to explain, but there is something special about physical copies of things, about touching and holding an item. Who does not love the ease of reading on a tablet, but give me a real book any day! The same is true when it comes to images nothing compares to a print – the texture, the colors, the quality.
#3 The screens on our devices are tiny
Why would people look at family portraits on their phone? A question I frequently ask myself, and one you might want to ask yourself as well. The average screen size on our mobile phones is around 3×5 inches. How much detail can we possibly see in that? Sure we can zoom in for details but what about the big picture? Family portraits are not just the chubby cheeks and cute smile on baby’s face but also the interaction between parent and child or with the siblings. Apart from that screens need to be calibrated from time to time to show true colors. Chances are your phone is not displaying the real beauty of your professional images.
#4 It’s good to have another copy
There is this big misconception that digital files are indestructible, but they are not. Hard drives break and formats change. Remember when everything was recorded on VHS tapes, then CDs, next Blue Rays, … you get the idea. I still have VHS tapes sitting around but no way to watch them since I don’t have a functioning VHS player. So here are memories of first birthdays, great trips and a lots of other memories trapped on tapes with no way to revisit them, unless someone can transfer them for me to the current system.
So go ahead and order some prints. Display these wonderful moments you had together as a family and which will make you smile every time you pass the picture in the hallway or on that shelf in the living room.
And stay tuned for next week when I will dive into where to print your images. Not all photo labs are the same and I will let you know why …
Comment below if this was helpful for you. Do you usually order prints? Why or why not? I am curious to see how you feel about it!
